she's a threadhead

GOD’s EYE #1

When I was at summer camp as a child, we would make God’s Eyes out of popsicle sticks and yarn. Weaving the different threads over and under, the end result would be a multi-coloured diamond that we hung from the trees around the camp site.

Now the whole thing stinks of cultural appropriation, but I still appreciate the aesthetic value of these colourful gems.

Recently, I broke out some wax crayons and set about drawing on a page of my sketchbook. The colours, center-out are: plum, yellow, lavender, asparagus, dandelion, wisteria and cerulean with a white background. I was sort-of going for a garden theme. I do realize the shape isn’t symmetrical, but this drawing was about the process – not perfection.
