3D CROSS STITCH

I haven’t posted any needlework in the past couple weeks, and I feel guilty. I swear there’s a reason! I’m working on a super-top-secret piece and while it’s in progress, I am not able to share it. Once I can – you’ll be the first to know!

That being said, I came across a cross stitch pattern designer recently that blew my socks off. I found her through the Cross Stitch subreddit, and after a little investigation, I wanted to share her work & Etsy store – ’cause it’s killer!

It’s not often that you come across someone who is bending the medium of needlework. Usually designers play with it, make it cute or rebellious and fool around. Robin Hobbs of Robin’s Design on Etsy creates cross stitch patterns which are embroidered flat and then sewn into 3D art dolls.

The designer occasionally published her work-in-progress pictures in the subreddit, and it’s awesome to see the flat surface be transformed in the three dimensional shapes with shading and colouring.

I’m particularly fond of quite of few of her creations – so I’ll be buying a pattern or two soon. Maybe a Tardis or two for that silly Doctor Who fan in my life?

I hope you have a great weekend!
